Royal Pavillion Palace in Brighton

Tuesday, April 16, 2019.  We slept like logs, waking up at 11:15am.  Yikes.  Actually, I woke up and dragged two sleeping kids out of bed.  We then hung out with Tessa and Michael, went to the market with Tessa to pick out lunch (and see their famous "V" - see below), and the adults chatted, while Haughton and Ridgely played hide-and-seek with their cameras in the yard.

In the afternoon, Michael took us to the fishing town of Brighton where we toured the Royal Pavillion Palace, built over 200 years ago as a seaside pleasure palace for King George IV.  The palace was later used by King William IV and then Queen Victoria until she sold it to Brighton.  During WWI, it was also used as a hospital.

After the Pavillion, we went to the coast where the kids played in the English Channel.

Once again, Tessa cooked a wonderful dinner.  We hung out and relaxed with their FIVE dogs (Whatsit, Driskle, Mudge, Winkle & Fleck).  As always with the Haughtons, it was a wonderful evening.

This V was planted on the Haughton property for Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee, i.e., after Queen Victoria reigned for 60 years (1887).  New trees have not been planted, so most are now 132 years old.
