The Alhambra again, dogs, cats, water, smoothies & Washington Irving

April 7.  Our last day in Granada.  Haughton had a list of things he still wanted to see.  One of which was the bath house at Alhambra.   While we couldn't access everything today, we could access some things, including the baths.  This building has holes in the ceilings for the light to shine through.  Right before Haughton took the picture below, he said, "I'm not taking any pictures because nothing alone is that interesting.  But together, it's all very interesting."  Beautifully said.

We also saw a chapel.  But to be honest, I think we were all tired.  The kids stopped focusing on the buildings, and started focusing on the flowing water throughout the Alhambra and the dozen or so cats who make this place their home.  They enjoyed and loved every dog we saw on the way to and from the Alhambra.   When we got back home, we got another smoothie and relaxed.

Oh, I'll also mention that in one of the pictures below, the kids are posing with a statue of Washington Irving.  Mr. Irving stayed (along with gypsies and others) at the Alhambra in 1832.  After this visit, he wrote "Tales of the Alhambra."  In these stories, he reinvents popular folktales that he had heard from the locals, taking place when the Moors ruled Spain.  We bought a version of his book and read The Three Beautiful Princesses last night.  Ridgely said it was much better than she expected and despite it's title, Haughton even listened to it all patiently.  Many believe Mr. Irving's stories reminded folks of the Alhambra and it's rich past, thus ultimately leading to restoration and protection of this very special place.

Afterwards, we watched the very first Stars Wars episode....  We are looking forward to Episode II as parts of it were filmed in the Plaza de Espana in Sevilla.  When Disney completes episode IX in 2019, Haughton thinks he may want to write Episode X.
